Coaches

We are very fortunate to welcome back Drew Quinn. This will be his 5th summer and with his experience of playing school and college tennis and his experience in coaching, he is a true asset to the tennis program. As we all know, Drew is fantastic with encouraging and motivating all the juniors and is an extremely popular member of the team. Drew is also excited and committed to be offering Progressive Tennis to junior players this summer.

The new coaches Drew and Doug Brightfield

We are also extremely pleased to announce that Drew and Doug Brightfield will be joining Drew Quinn to make up the tennis coaching team this summer. Drew and Doug are currently at the University of Missouri where they have just completed their sophomore and junior years; they are both premed majors.

Drew and Doug have been playing competitive tennis since they were 10 years of age. They enjoyed significant success playing both singles and doubles achieving top 15 ranking positions in the Missouri Valley . Along with their top rankings in the Missouri Valley, both of them were nationally ranked in the top 300.

As well as being phenomenal players, both brothers have experience teaching children and adults; having coached in clubs and children’s camps in St Louis. Drew and Doug will be joining Drew Quinn in introducing the Progressive Tennis method of coaching to junior players this summer. In addition, they are planning to introduce adult clinics and they are particularly excited about the prospect of running clinics focusing on strategic doubles play.

We have a great deal planned for you this summer, the details of which are listed below.

Junior Tennis

Junior Tennis Camps

This summer, under the direction of Rufus Nel (Tennis Canada) we are introducing the full program of Progressive Tennis. This is an innovative approach to teaching tennis and whilst still fun, enables players to learn to play tennis more quickly, efficiently and successfully. The tennis camps offer instruction to all juniors from the ages of 5 to 16, whatever their skill level.

New for 2009 - the program also includes a combination tennis/sailing camp session.

Also new to the Summer 2009 junior program

This summer we are introducing Friday evening fun ’tournaments’ for all junior players from the age of 6 onwards. The tournaments will provide all players with the opportunity to play at their own level, ie. on a half court, 3/4size court or full court and with the opportunity to put into play skills learned in lessons during the week. Children not taking tennis lessons will also be very welcome to play. The tournaments will run alongside Royal Hour, so why not come and have a drink or two whilst your children have great fun with us on the tennis courts? Sign-up sheets will be posted in the tennis room.

Saturday morning group tennis lessons will also be offered this summer. As this is a new addition to our program these will be run as long as we have 5 juniors registered per group. The lessons will be one hour in duration for all age groups.

Teen Tennis Tuesday and Thursday 4pm - 5.30pm

Once again, Teen hitting clinics will be offered for all club members between the ages of 13 and 19. This clinic will enable teens to hit and play with others of their own age and level of experience. Led by a member of the tennis team players will receive instruction. This clinic is being offered at the extremely reasonable price of $12 per player. Sign-up sheets will be posted in the tennis room.

Adult Clinics

This summer we are planning to introduce adult clinics for those who would like to improve their skills. Clinics will focus on different aspects of the game for example, serve and volley, ground strokes, overheads and strategic doubles play. More information and sign up sheets will be posted in the tennis room.

Private lessons

As in previous years, private lessons will be available outside of the hours of the junior program. Private lessons are open to all members and non-members, of any age and skill level. So why not have some individual coaching or get a group of 4 together to enjoy improving your skills on the court?
